Delete your account
Last reviewed 2026-09-14
You can permanently delete your TaskVault account and every byte of synced data we hold for it, in under a minute, from inside the app. No support ticket, no waiting, no email required — because we don't have one to email you at.
→Deletion is self-service, in-app, and immediate — it removes your account, every paired device, and all synced (encrypted) task data from our server.
→Tasks stored locally on your own device(s) are not touched — TaskVault is local-first, and deleting your account only removes what's stored with us.
→Lost access to the app? See "Can't open the app?" below for how to request deletion anyway.
From any device where TaskVault is signed in to sync:
- Open TaskVault and go to Settings.
- Under the Sync section, tap Delete account.
- Type
DELETEto confirm — this is deliberately a different phrase from "Erase workspace" elsewhere in Settings, since the two actions do very different things (see clause 03). - Tap confirm. Your account and its data are deleted from our server immediately.
This option only appears when sync is turned on — TaskVault's free tier works fully offline with no account at all, so there's nothing on our server to delete until you've opted into paid sync at least once.
Deleting your account permanently removes, from our server:
- Your account record (the random account ID, passphrase-verification data, and recovery-key hash — see the privacy policy, clause 01)
- Every device you've ever paired for sync, and its metadata
- All of your synced task data — every encrypted blob, for every workspace tied to the account
- Any encrypted attachments you've synced
- Your subscription/billing link record on our side (see clause 04 for what Google separately retains)
This is a real cascading delete at the database level, not a soft "hide the account" flag — once confirmed, there is nothing left server-side to recover. That's also why it can't be undone: we don't keep a copy to restore from.
Local task data on your own device is untouched. TaskVault is local-first — your tasks already live on your device independent of sync, and deleting your account only removes the copy stored with us. If you want your local data gone too, that's a separate, on-device action ("Erase workspace" in Settings, or simply uninstalling the app) — deliberately kept as a different step from account deletion, since one wipes a server record and the other wipes the device sitting in your hand.
Our infrastructure runs routine encrypted backups of the server for disaster recovery, on a short rolling cycle. A just-deleted account may exist in one of these backups for a few days after deletion, purely as an artifact of that rotation, before it ages out along with everything else in that backup. It is never restored, read, or used for any purpose in the interim.
If you had an active paid subscription, deleting your account does not automatically cancel billing on Google's side — Google Play Billing manages your subscription and payment method independently of TaskVault. Cancel it separately from Google Play's own subscriptions page if you don't want it to renew. Google retains its own purchase and transaction records under its own policies; that's outside our systems and this page.
If you no longer have access to any device with TaskVault installed and signed in, email privacy@bytebleeder.com and we'll delete the account for you.
One honest catch: because TaskVault doesn't collect an email address or username, we have no login to check your request against. To confirm you're the account holder before we delete anything, expect us to ask for your account's recovery phrase (the one shown once at setup) or another detail only the account holder would have. We'd rather ask an extra question than delete the wrong account.
This page describes TaskVault's account-deletion process specifically. For everything else about what we collect and why, see the full privacy policy.
